The Cincinnati Bengals will finish the season without defensive tackle Geno Atkins.

On Friday, Bengals heard coach Marvin Lewis confirmed that the 25-year-old Atkins suffered a torn right ACL in the Bengals 22-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Thursday.

Atkins suffered the injury in the second quarter on a running play where his right knee got twisted under a mound of players. Atkins walked off the field with the aid of two teammates and then was carted to the locker room with 4:35 left in the second quarter.

Last season Atkins recorded 12.5 sacks and added 53 tackles. He had already accumulated six sacks and 20 tackles this season.

This immediately puts the Bengals on the lookout for help on the defensive line.

In early September Atkins signed a five-year, $55 million extension with the Bengals.
