New England Patriots NT Vince Wilfork suffered  a torn Achilles’ tendon in  New England’s 30-23 win over Atlanta on Sunday, according to The Boston Globe.

If the news is true, it means that Wilfork’s season is over, as typically Achilles injuries take six to nine months to recover from, according to Dr. Robert Anderson, an NFL foot and ankle specialist.

The Patriots will have a huge hole in their defense.

Wilfork went down in the first quarter of Sunday night’s win, he appeared to step on another player’s foot, and he immediately had to come out of the game. He was taken to the Patriots locker room on a cart and ended up leaving the Georgia Dome with a protective boot on his right foot.

Wilfork has missed just six games in 10 NFL seasons, and none  since 2009. Joe Vellano and Chris Jones are next up on the depth chart, but the Pats will likely be in the market for help.
