Brandon Weeden has a sprained right thumb but the Cleveland Browns quarterback will not require surgery.

The Browns will start third string quarterback Brian Hoyer in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings. Hoyer will become the 19th different quarterback to start for the Browns since re-entering the NFL in 1999.

Weeden injured his thumb late in the Browns loss to Baltimore last Sunday.

“You never want to get hurt,” said Weeden to reporters. “I don’t care when it is, could be the 16th game or the first game, as a player, you want to be out there. So yeah, it is frustrating. Even though the results weren’t there offensively, we were starting to do some better things.”

On Wednesday the Browns traded running back Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a first round pick. Many people in the media and fan base are starting to believe that the Browns are prepared to tank the season to ensure drafting Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

To make matters worse for Weeden on Thursday the Browns head coach ,Rob Chudzinski, declined to say he would return to the starters role when healthy.
