Rex Ryan says that Geno Smith will start the New York Jets game on Thursday against the New England Patriots.

Smith, 22, had a solid debut in Week 1 against Tampa Bay completing 24-of-38 passes for 256 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The Jets won the game thanks to a late penalty from Tampa Bay linebacker Lavonte David.

It is hardly a surprise that Smith is starting for the Jets. They have no other options and even if Mark Sanchez was healthy it is unlikely he would have started.
