Jets release veteran WR Braylon Edwards

The New York Jets released wide receiver Braylon Edwards on Monday. Edwards, 30, went down with a leg injury last week and missed the Jets third preseason game.

Ryan Spadola will assume the roster spot which Edwards was to occupy.

Edwards spent three of the last four seasons with the Jets but managed just 18 catches in 13 games last season.

That the receiver hungry Jets opted to let go of Edwards speaks volumes about what the eight year player has left in the tank. Edwards will likely try to get healthy and hope that receiver needy teams give him a call.
