The Washington Redskins are playing it safe with Robert Griffin III by not playing him in any preseason games.

Reasons like Monday night are exactly why as the Redskins saw Kirk Cousins go down with a right foot injury.

Cousins was injured on a seven-yard run when Lawrence Timmons caught him from behind. Timmons landed on the back of Cousin’s leg and the quarterback’s foot bend awkwardly.

Rex Grossman was called upon to replace Cousins. The injury report listed Cousins as questionable to return but the reality is he is day-to-day at this point as the Redskins are not going to risk anything in a preseason game.

X-rays came back negative and Cousins is able to walk on the foot according to the in-game report.
