The Miami Dolphins have reached out to free agent quarterback Tyler Thigpen.

Thigpen, 29, has been out of work since the end of the 2012 season when he served as the backup in Buffalo. A few teams are known to have worked out Thigpen but none are known to have made an offer.

Third-string QB Pat Devlin suffered a hand injury in Sunday’s loss to Dallas. If signed Thigpen would be no higher then third on the depth chart behind Ryan Tanehill and Matt Moore.

Thigpen has appeared in 29 games including 12 starts (1-11) and has totaled 3,222 yards passing, 21 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. In 2009 and 2011 he spent time with the Dolphins.
