The exact reason for Von Miller’s four game suspension is not clear but according to the Denver Post the Broncos linebacker did not test positive for violating the NFL’s drug policy.

Numerous reasons are listed for reasons players could violate the policy without testing positive for a banned substance. They include missing a test, showing up late for a test repeatedly and missing a counseling session.

Miller has been in the NFL’s substance abuse program since he tested positive for marijuana in 2011.

Miller was the NFL’s defensive rookie of the year in 2011 after he recorded 11½ sacks and he bettered that in his second season of 2012 with 18½ sacks.

Should Miller miss any time he will likely be replaced by Shaun Phillips formerly of the San Diego Chargers.
