Coming off a year in which he was anything but sure, Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter is set to count $2.7 against the cap in 2013. On Saturday the team selected kicker Caleb Sturgis out of Florida with the 166th overall pick in the NFL draft.

Sturgis was the first kicker selected in the draft ahead of Dustin Hopkins who later was selected by the Bills with pick 177.

In his last season with the Gators, Sturgis made 24-of-28 field goal attempts including 8-of-9 from outside of 40-yards.

Carpenter made 10-of-15 kicks outside of the 40 and was 22-of-27 on the season. His production fell within his career norm of connecting on 81.9 percent of his attempts.
