Ravens and Boldin in stare down over contract

Anquan Boldin and the Baltimore Ravens appear to be in a stare down in regards to the receivers contract for the 2013 season.

Boldin had suggested during the playoffs that he would retire if the Ravens did not bring him back for the 2013 season, after averaging 95 yards a game during the Ravens Super Bowl run the 32-year-old has changed his tune a tad.

While retirement is still an option it is far more likely that Boldin plays in 2013. The question is whether or not he will be targeted by Joe Flacco.

Flacco signed a new deal with the Ravens which cleared up cap money though the Ravens do not appear destined to use that money to pay Boldin.

Recent reports suggest that Boldin was given a take-it or leave it offer on Friday. Boldin said on Saturday that he had not been approached about being cut by the Ravens.

Now the Baltimore Sun is claiming that Boldin went as far to prepare a statement “thanking the fans for their support.”

Surely the Ravens want Boldin back but they are not going to pay him the $6 million left on his contract.

The Ravens are in bad shape in regards to the salary cap and have 13 players who are set to become free agents. With free agency set to begin on Tuesday this one will get sorted out shortly.
