Colin Kaepernick’s tattoos will be shown off during Super Bowl XLVII

Colin Kaepernick is taking the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl. On February 3rd they will face off against the Baltimore Ravens.

Aside from a bunch of commercials promoting Doritos, Pepsi and Go Daddy one thing that will garner a lot of attention is the tattoos on the arm of the second-year player Kaepernick.

A lot has been made about the ink on Kaepernicks arm but exactly what are they and what is the meaning behind them?

Many of Kaepernick’s tattoos feature motivational sayings, most from the Bible. He looks to draw inspiration from his body art.

“Against All Odds,” is emblazoned across his chest. A version of Psalm 27:3 “Though an army besiege me, my heart will not be afraid” can be read on his left shoulder. Those words are surrounded by: “God Will Guide Me.”

On Kaepernick’s back he has a mural of angels and demons that took 18 hours over a couple of sessions to complete.

He has “faith” inscribed on his right bicep and “to God the glory” on his left, which he kisses when he scores a touchdown. The celebration has inspired a meme known as “Kaepernicking.”

Kaepernick said that the signature move is kind of his way of telling people that he doesn’t care what people think of his tattoos.

“I got them for me and to show people this is what I believe in. And God has brought me this far. He’s laid out a phenomenal path for me and I can do nothing but thank him.”
