The Oakland Athletics have placed pitcher Drew Pomeranz on the 15-day disabled list.

Pomeranz, 25, punched a wooden chair with his right hand following Monday’s poor outing that saw him allow eight runs – seven earned – in just 3 2/3 innings of work.

The good news for Pomeranz is that he throws with his left hand, the bad news is that he in unable to catch the ball currently.

“I just let my emotions take over me, and I did something stupid,” Pomeranz said Tuesday afternoon, via the Athletics website. “Obviously, I didn’t mean for it to happen. It sucks because I want to play, I want to pitch. I’m trying to win games and help the team out. Obviously, I’m not helping the team out when I do something stupid like that.”

The A’s will need a pitcher come Saturday and one option could be Brad Mills who was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday.

Though 17 games, 8 starts, Pomeranz had a 2.91 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.
