The St. Louis Cardinals have called up catcher Rob Johnson from Triple-A Memphis. Johnson will replace Ty Wigginton on the active roster.
Wigginton, 35, signed a two-year deal with the Cardinals in the offseason but had only 57 at-bats for the club prior to his release.
During his stay with the Cardinals, Wigginton appeared in 47 games hitting .158/.,238/.193 with 3 RBI. He can be signed for the prorated major league minimum.
With the addition of Johnson the Cardinals have three catchers on their active roster. All-Star Yadier Molina is currently dealing with a knee issue.
