Josh Tomlin settles for minor league deal from Brewers

After waiting a week into February and Josh Tomlin has accepted a minor league deal with the Brewers.

Tomlin, 34, spent last season as a mop up man for the Indians but held a 6.14 ERA through 32 games.

The Brewers have invited Tomlin to spring training and will give him a chance to compete for a spot at the backend of their rotation.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the deal is worth $1.25 million if Tomlin is in the majors and can max out at $3.5 million if he reached 150 innings.

Just a couple of days ago the Brewers were said to be interested in bringing back Gio Gonzalez. Gonzalez made five starts for the Brewers at the end of 2018 going 3-0 with a 2.13 ERA. His 2018 season as a whole was 32 starts with a 10-11 record, 4.21 ERA and 1.44 WHIP.

The signing of Tomlin should have little affect on the Brewers pursuit of Gonzalez or another end of rotation arm.
