Former Braves utility player Jace Peterson signs with Yankees

Jace Peterson was non-tendered by the Braves earlier this winter and now the veteran utility player has landed a minor league contract with the Yankees.

Peterson, 27, will also receive an invitation to spring training.

The Braves opted to let Peterson go rather than give him a raise during his first year of salary arbitration. Known for his versatility of playing across the infield and outfield, Peterson is just a .234/.319/.331 hitter though his first four big league seasons.

Peterson’s chances of making the Yankees hinge largely on what the club plans to do with its top prospects Glyber Torres and Miguel Andujar. The Yankees were linked to re-signing Todd Frazier earlier this winter but thus far there has not been a lot of movement towards a new deal.
