With Alex Gordon re-signed the Royals will now look to lock up catcher Salvador Perez to a new contract.
The Royals re-signed outfielder Alex Gordon on Wednesday. The soon to be 32-year-old declined his $12.5 million player option for 2016 in order to become a free agent. The market never really developed for the gold glove outfielder as he had hoped and he will now return to the Royals on a reported four-year deal worth $72 million ($18 million annually).
Next order of business for Royals: Redoing Salvador Perez's contract, which may be the single worst for a player in modern sports history.

Perez, 25, is owed just $2 million for the 2016 season. There are three club options that follow worth a total of $14.75 million. Jon Heyman reported last month that the catcher and the Royals have begun talks on an extension and Jeff Passan says the restructuring is still taking place. It is unclear what a deal would look like for the two sides but expect the Royals to offer more money in an effort to extend Perez past his age of 30 season.
With Gordon re-signed and Perez locked in on the roster the Royals will enter 2016 strong as they look to repeat as World Series champions.
