The Detroit Tigers have designated relief pitchers Joba Chamberlain and Tom Gorzelanny for assignment as they attempt to shake up their struggling bullpen.

Chamberlain’s job status became shaky after allowing eight runs in his last seven appearances. On the season he had a 4.09 ERA and a nasty 1.68 WHIP with 15 strike outs and five walks in 22 innings of work.

Things were no better for Gorzelanny who had seen action in 30 games but had a 6.38 ERA.

The Tigers have called up Jeff Ferrell and Drew VerHagen from Triple-A Toledo.
