Left handed pitcher Wandy Rodriguez will start for the Texas Rangers on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels.
Rodriguez, 36, failed to make the roster of the Atlanta Braves this spring and later signed a minor league deal with the Rangers.
In two starts at Triple-A Round Rock Rodriguez has allowed two runs and struck out 10 over seven innings of work.
He is coming off a down and injury plagued 2014 season taht saw him going 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP across six starts with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Seattle Mariners have signed Carlos Quentin.
Quentin, 32, was sent to the Atlanta Braves in a trade that also saw Craig Kimbrel and Melvin Upton go to the San Diego Padres. The Braves never had a desire to keep Quentin on the roster and are paying him upwards of $8 million.
Known for having a potent bat when healthy, Quenin has struggled to appear on the field the last three seasons. He has not played in more than 100 games since the 2011 season.
