Orioles trying to trade Ryan Webb and Brian Matusz

The Baltimore Orioles are trying to unload a pair of pitchers in Ryan Webb and Brian Matusz.

Webb has made a career out of being a reliable ground ball pitcher with a career 3.37 ERA but the Orioles simply have no space for him in their bullpen. He was designated for assignment over the weekend but no one is willing to take on his $2.75 million salary meaning the Orioles are now trying to trade him while paying a portion of his salary.

The Orioles are also trying to unload Brian Matusz. Right now Matusz is an expensive left handed specialist making $3.2 million but the Orioles would prefer to ship him somewhere else to get away from paying his contract. He is under team control for next season as well making him a worthwhile target for a team willing to take a gamble.

The 28-year-old Matusz has pitched out of the bullpen the last two seasons. Last year he appeared in 63 games posting a 3.48 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. He has made 68 career starts at the big league level.
