The White Sox have released outfielder Dayan Viciedo.
Viciedo, 25, was designated for assignment last week. The White Sox were trying to find a trade partner for Viciedo but found no takers. As a free agent he should find some interest.
The White Sox reached a one-year deal with Viciedo worth $4.4 million earlier this year to avoid salary arbitration and will now be on the hook for $733,000 of his salary.
Though 145 games Viciedo hit .231/.281/.405 with 21 home runs and 58 RBI. His pop makes him an asset but his lack of contact has always hampered his upside.
The Mariners are one team who were said to have interest in Viciedo weeks ago.
