The Braves have signed A.J. Pierzynski to be the backup for Christian Bethancourt for the 2015 season.

Much of the offseason the Braves have sought a veteran to share time and teach the ropes to the 23-year-old.

Pierzynski, 37, hit .251/.288/.337 in 362 plate appearances this past season between the Red Sox and Cardinals.

Like him or not Pierzynski was a leader in the White Sox clubhouse for years. While his play is not what it was three years ago, he should do quite well as the backup in Atlanta.

The Braves should formally annouce the signing sometime in January after Pierzynski passes a physical.
