The Padres continued adding to their offense on Friday picking up infielder WIll Middlebrooks.

Middlebrooks, 26, was once a top prospect of the Red Sox but he has clearly fallen out of flavor in Boston after hititng just .191/.256/.265 with two home runs and 19 RBI in 63 games last season.

The Red Sox signed Pablo Sandoval early this offseason which meant that Middlebrooks was getting moved sooner or later.

In exchange for Middlebrooks the Red Sox picked up catcher Ryan Hanign.

Hanigan, 34, is nothing to get excited about as he owns a career .256/.353/.341 line and has been absolutely dreadful the last two seasons at the plate. Known for his defense he will open the season sharing catching duties with Christian Vazquez.
