On Thursday the Oakland Athletics designated reliever Fernando Rodriguez for assignment.
The 30-year-old Rodriguez made seven appearances out of the A’s bullpen last season allowing one earned run over nine innings of work. He ad agreed to a one-year deal with the A’s earlier this month worth $635,000 to avoid salary arbitration.
He is getting the boot off the 40-man roster to make room for Eury de la Rosa.
Rodriguez has appeared in 126 career big league games split between the Los Angeles Angels, Houston Astros and the Athletics. He owns a career 4.67 ERA in 132 1/3 innings of work.
