The Chicago White Sox appear to be the winners in the competition to acquire starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija from the Oakland Athletics.
Acquired mid-season from the Chicago Cubs, Samardzija compiled the best season of his career posting a 2.99 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP across 219 2.3 innings of work. The 29-year-old is set to become a free agent at the end of the season which coupled with strong organizational depth has placed him out of the Athletics plans.

Samardzia is set to earn $9.5 million in his final year of arbitration. There is no word as to what the White Sox will send in exchange for the former Notre Dame tight end but Semien and prospect Tim Anderson are the names that have been talked about.
