The Cubs have the largest offer on the table for free agent left hander Jon Lester.

Lester, 30, has an offer for six years and $138 million from the Cubs reports CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman. If true that is the biggest offer out to Lester who split last year between the Red Sox and Athletics.

The Red Sox are said to be willing to go to $130 million leaving them as the biggest competition to the Cubs at this point. One other option could be the Giants who were unable to re-sign Pablo Sandoval.

Lester lives in Atlanta but John Hart has twice conceded that the Braves are long-shots to land him deeming him the right player at the wrong time. Other teams who have at-least shown interest are the Cardinals, Blue Jays and Royals.

Lester had his finest season when it mattered making 32 starts last year posting a 2.46 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP.
