The New York Mets have shut down third baseman David Wright for the rest of the 2014 season with inflammation in his left rotator cuff.

Wright has been dealing with the inflammation since mid-June but is not expected to require surgery. He will now get a few more weeks of rest before starting a strength and conditioning program.

With his season over Wright finishes the year with a .269/.324/.374 batting line with eight homers over 134 games. The Mets figure to give Eric Campbell the bulk of the starts at third base as the season comes to a close.
