The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly targeting mid-September for the return of staring pitcher Michael Wacha reports Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Wacha began light throwing on Tuesday after an MRI showed that his right shoulder had began to heal.

“I don’t feel any pain in the shoulder or anything like that,” the young righty said after some light tosses. “It definitely feels strong. It feels alive, really.”

Ideally the Cardinals would bring Wacha back as a starter but a trip to the bullpen can not be ruled out at this point.

The 23-year-old Wacha made 15 starts before the injury posting a 2.79 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP.
