Mariners acquire Chris Denorfia from Padres

The Seattle Mariners have been trying to add an outfield bat. On Thursday they acquired Chris Denorfia from the San Diego Padres.

Denorfia, 34, will provide the Mariners with versatility in the outfield as he can play all three positions. He was hitting .242/.293/.319 with the Padres adding a home run and 25 RBI. He should see plenty of playing time with the Mariners but will be moved around.

The Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves were also considered suitors for Denorfia.

While Denorfia is a solid pickup for the Mariners they likely had their sights a little higher and could still be trying to add an additional bat.

To complete the deal Abraham Almonte is headed to the Padres along with a minor league pitcher.
