The Philadelphia Phillies have released outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr.
Gwynn passed though waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment by the Phillies last week.

The 31-year-old Gwynn was hitting just .163/.281/.204 in 199 plate appearances for the Phillies and will likely have to settle for a minor league contract if he wants to continue playing this season.
