Catcher A.J. Pierzynski had a strong debut with the St. Louis Cardinals recording three hits in a 6-3 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Pierzynski, 37, recorded singles in his final three at-bats providing a insurance run in the seventh inning after signing with the Cardinals earlier in the day.
“People that played with me and know me, know what I’m about and that’s all that really matters,” Pierzynski said.
With Yadier Molina out with a thumb injury, Pierzynski will see plenty of action behind the plate.
“I didn’t want to end with the bad taste I had in my mouth in Boston,” Pierzynski said. “I didn’t want to end like that. I didn’t want to end the season. I didn’t want to end anything like that.”
