Rangers call up Carlos Pena to play first

The Texas Rangers wasted little time calling up recently signed first baseman Carlos Pena.

Signed a week ago, Pena had a brief stay at Triple-A Round Rock.

Given that Pena hit just .207/.321/.346 with eight home runs in 89 games last season between Houston and Kansas City expectations should be tempered.

Pena has been penciled into the sixth spot in the Rangers batting order. He is replacing Brad Snyder who was designated for assignment.
