The Detroit Tigers will try to re-sign Victor Martinez.

While Martinez is 35 he has been a prominent part of the Tigers offense boasting a .337/.393/.611 line with 12 home runs and 29 RBI entering action on Monday.

Chris Iott of MLive.com passes along the following information:

The Tigers will certainly try to re-sign Victor Martinez. I expect Max Scherzer to get a better (huge) deal elsewhere. Torii Hunter is 38 years old and his defense is fading quickly. I can’t get a read on that situation right now. If Joba Chamberlain continues to pitch well, the Tigers would want him back. Other teams would want him, too. It’s way too early to get a read on Joel Hanrahan. Phil Coke? The Tigers won’t pursue him if he doesn’t improve.

Martinez first joined the Tigers prior to the 2011 season. He is earning $12 million this season.

While the Tigers will surely try to re-sign Martinez this one could come down to simple dollars and cents.
