Ryan Zimmerman’s thumb still not fully healed

On Monday the Washington Nationals had X-rays taken on the right thumb of third baseman Ryan Zimmerman. The results showed that Zimmerman’s fractured right thumb still had some healing to do.

Nationals manager Matt Williams did not give any indication of when Zimmerman could return to the lineup.

“It’s hard to say. Everybody is different. Everybody heals differently. It was an interesting fracture. It wasn’t just a crack straight across. It was kind of like a Y. So there are multiple things that have to heal there. Yeah, we would like it to go faster, but it is what it is.”

It has been five weeks since Zimmerman fractured his thumb in an April 13 game against the Atlanta Braves. He will have his thumb placed in a splint but will not be able to throw just yet.

Before landing on the DL, Zimmerman had appeared in 10 games hitting .364/.405/.636 with two home runs and six RBI.
