Anibal Sanchez will be on a pitch count when the Detroit Tigers face the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.

Sanchez has not stared since April 26 and Tigers manager Brad Ausmus conceded to the Detroit News that the right hander would be on a pitch count.

“We have to watch his pitch count, for sure,” Ausmus said. “We have to watch it and make sure it doesn’t get over a certain amount.”

Of course Ausmus did not reveal that number. The Tigers are currently concerned about a blister on Sanchez’s throwing hand.

“It (feels that way, a little) because of the way it all went down with the rain in spring training, the rain to start the season and then he gets this injury. When he finally seems like he’s going to get on a roll, he gets the blister,” Ausmus said. “It’ll be nice to get him back and it’ll take a couple starts to get his pitch count back up to where we don’t have to be concerned with it but I guess we’d have to do that regardless.”
