Astros sign Kyle Farnsworth, option Paul Clemens to Triple-A

The Houston Astros have signed free agent relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth.

Farnsworth was recently let go by the New York Mets, even though he had pitched fairly well. The Mets cut Farnsworth in an effort to avoid paying him a salary for the full season.

Farnsworth has a 3.18 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP in 17 inning of work. He has a 10/6 K/BB ratio this season.

With the Astros it could be only a matter of days before Farnsworth is in a setup role.

In order to make room for Farnsworth the Astros sent Paul Clemens to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Clemens had a 4.08 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 9/6 K/BB ratio over 17 2/3 innings with the Astros this season. He should arrive back in Houston before too long.
