Matt Cain to make next start, Ivan Nova undergoes Tommy John surgery

San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain will make his next start after being scratched on Tuesday.

Cain, 29, cut his right index finger on a kitchen knife and missed his most recent start but he should have no trouble getting the ball in Pittsburgh on Monday.

All things considered Cain has not had the start to the 2014 season that he had hoped for as he is 0-3 with a 4.35 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP after five starts.

On Tuesday, New York Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova underwent Tommy John surgery.

Already out for the season Nova had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow done by Dr. James Andrews.

Nova sustained the injury during an April 19 start against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. In four starts he finishes the season 2-2 with an 8.27 ERA.
