The Miami Marlins have designated utility player Greg Dobbs for assignment.

Dobbs, 35, had just one hit in 13 trips to the plate this season. A year ago the Marlins made the curious decision to give Dobbs a one-year extension worth $1.7 million.

The Marlins activated Ed Lucas from the disabled list to take Dobbs spot. Lucas was 6-for-14 during three rehab games with High-A Jupiter. He will serve as a utility infielder for the Marlins.
