The New York Yankees suffered a 16-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday but the worst part of it is an injury suffered by starting pitcher Ivan Nova.

Nova, 27, left the game after four innings in which he allowed eight runs on eight hits and a walk. Of the eight hits, four were home runs. Nova also struck out four. He threw 82 pitches for the Yankees in the game before the Yankees bench noticed something was not right.

Manager Joe Girardi said that Nova said he wanted to keep pitching when he visited him on the mound. Brian McCann said that Nova’s bad outing had a lot to do with poor location wen speaking to reporters on Saturday.

The Yankees will place Nova on the disabled list on Sunday. While Tommy John surgery has not been announced yet it figures to be just a matter of time.

If Nova’s season is over he will finish it with a 2-2 record, 8.27 ERA and a 1.84 WHIP.

A season ago he appeared in 23 gams, 20 starts, posting a 3.10 ERA and a 128 WHIP.
