Joe Blanton has retired from baseball.

The right handed pitcher was released from the Los Angeles Angels at the end of spring training and later latched on with the Oakland Athletics. Assigned to Triple-A he has retired after two starts.

While Blanton struggled in his first outing he was better in Thursday’s outing allowing a run on four hits and a walk while striking out six in 5 2/3 innings of work.

In 20 starts and eight relief appearances for the Angels last year, Blanton was 2-14 with a 6.04 ERA in 132 2/3 innings. He retires with an 85-89 record and a 4.51 ERA.
