The Los Angeles Angels have released pitcher Joe Blanton.
Blanton, 33, was given a two-year deal worth $15 million which immediately the Angels regretted.
Last season Blanton appeared in 28 games last season making 20 starts and posted an ugly 6.04 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP in 132 2/3 innings. He has not posted a sub-4 ERA since 2007.
The Angels are on the hook for his $7.5 million salary this season as well as a $1 million buyout for 2015. Previously the Angels had been fielding trades for the right hander but no one was willing to offer anything.
There figures to be some interest in Blanton around the league now that he is a free agent but expectations should be tempered.
