On Wednesday the Houston Astros released first baseman Brett Wallace.
The Astros were forced to give up on Wallace who has offered little to nothing at the major league level across the last four seasons compiling a .242/.313/.391 line with 29 home runs and 102 RBI in 311 games.
He passed though waivers in February and was a non-roster invitee to camp this spring by the Astros but in the end the team saw no spot for him.
“He’s been a big part of this organization for past few years, but we didn’t see a role for him at the big league level,” said general manager Jeff Luhnow.
Wallace, 27, has been a Triple-A masher and someone will surely pick him up with that in mind. It is his only path back to the majors.
