The Kansas City Royals and pitcher Greg Holland avoided arbitration on Monday agreeing to a one-year deal.
Holland, 28, and the Royals both appear to be willing to work towards a multi-year extension even as the pitcher will remain arbitration eligible though 2016.
The new deal between Holland and the Royals calls for the pitcher to make $4.675 million according to the Kansas City Star. That number is a little more than the midpoint when arbitration figures were exchanged.
Holland finished the 2013 season with a 1.21 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 103/18 K/BB ratio. He will continue to be the Royals closer after notching 47 saves.
