The Detroit Tigers have avoided arbitration with pitchers Max Scherzer and Al Albuquerque.

Scherzer, 29, is in his final year of arbitration and is coming off a season that saw him win the AL Cy Young after posting a 21-3 record and 2.90 ERA. He will earn $15.525 million in 2014.

The Tigers also avoided arbitration with reliever Al Alburquerque agreeing to a one-year deal worth $837,000.

Albuquerque compiled a 4.59 ERA while striking out 70 batters in 49 innings in 2013.
