The San Diego Padres have avoided arbitration with outfielder Seth Smith.
In December the Padres acquired Smith from Oakland. The 31-year-old has proven himself to be a capable outfield option. He had a bit of a downturn last season with a .253/.329/.391 line with eight home runs and 40 RBI.
Expect Smith to be a regular fixture in the Padres outfield. Smith will earn $4.5 million in 2014 up from teh $3.675 million he earned a year ago.
