The Baltimore Orioles and Steve Pearce avoided arbitration by agreeing on a new one-year deal.

Pearce, 30, appeared in 44 games for the Orioles last season hitting .261/.362/.420 with four home runs. He will see limited action at first, outfield and DH in 2014.

The new deal calls for Pearce to make $850,000 next season.

Currently the Orioles are still trying to find trade partners for closer Jim Johnson. While Johnson saved 50 games each of the last two seasons he blew nine games in 2013. He is expected to command as much as $10 million in arbitration.
