Cubs interview Brad Ausmus for manager job

The Chicago Cubs interviewed Brad Ausmus on Friday for their vacant managerial position. Ausmus, 44, has been serving as a special assistant to the general manager for the San Diego Padres, a position that he was hired to by current Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer while he was in San Diego.

Ausmus joins a group of five others who are known to have interviewed for the position. Thus far AJ Hinch, Manny Acta, Dave Martinez, Eric Wedge and Rick Renteria have spoken to the Cubs. Red Sox coach Torey Lovullo is also reportedly in line for an interview.

During his career, Ausmus played for four teams. While Ausmus played with the Astros, Tigers, Padres and Dodgers from 1993-2010. His only managing experience came with the Israeli national team prior to the 2012 World Baseball Classic.
