Joe Girardi will not be leaving the New York Yankees.
With an expiring contract as the backdrop, the Yankees worked out an extension with the manager though the 2017 season.

While some tried to link Girardi to the managerial vacancy with the Chicago Cubs the situation never got that far. Giardi has led the Yankees to the playoffs four times in his six years of managing. The Yankees won the World Series in 2009.
A new deal with Girardi is expected to be worth as much as $16 million over the next four years.
