Phillies close to adding Larry Bowa to coaching staff


Larry Bowa appears headed back to Philadelphia for a fourth stint of service with the Phillies.

CSN Philly is reporting that Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg wants Bowa to be on his coaching staff for the 2014 season.

The Phillies have three openings on their coaching staff: Bench coach, pitching coach and third base coach. Mick Billmeyer, who served as the bench coach at the end of the season, did not have his contract renewed nor did pitching coach Rich Dubee. Juan Samuel served as the third base coach to finish out the 2013 season for the Phillies.

This would be Bowa’s fourth tour of duty with the Phillies. Previoulsy Bowa played with the club from 1970-1981, served as a coach with from 1989-1996, and managed from 2001-2004.
