Alex Wood’s time in the Atlanta Braves rotation has come to an end. The Braves will use Wood as a relief pitcher during the post season and want to give the 22-year-old lefty a chance to get comfortable in that role.

Wood had not went five innings in his last three starts.

On Sunday the Braves used Wood in the eighth inning, something that should continue.

“There’s a lot of pluses with him going into the bullpen,” manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “It has nothing to do with the innings [he has completed]. It has everything to do with us being a better pitching staff.”

The addition of Wood to the bullpen gives the Braves three left handed pitchers in the bullpen.

In 27 games this season Wood has a 3.21 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP for the Braves.
