A couple of shaky outings have caused the Detroit Tigers to give relief pitcher Phil Coke some time off.

In Coke’s last two appearances he has pitched an inning while allowing four runs, three earned, three hits and four walks.

The Tigers are saying Coke is dealing with left elbow tenderness after he had trouble finishing his pitches on Wednesday night. With the AL Central crown nearly in the bag the Tigers will make sure Coke is healthy and rested for the playoffs.

Coke holds a 5.40 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP on the season.
